- In 1981, as a free agent, Carlton signed with
- the Chicago White Sox. He continued to play
- well, even as he grew older. In 1985, at age
- 37, he hit 37 homers and knocked in 107
- runs. On June 22, 1993, Carlton caught his
- 2,226th game, breaking the record for most
- games at catcher. He finished his career with
- more home runs as a catcher (351) than any
- other big-league backstop. He retired during
- the 1993 season.
